    The Daniel Plan - June 26, 2016

God knows how much I love you and long for you with the tender compassion of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:8

The Greek word translated as "tender compassion" here means guts or intestines. The Greeks believed human emotions came from the internal organs of the belly.

Paul is telling the Philippians he loves them from his gut, the way Jesus loves them.

This is the kind of love we need to have for our friends.
The support of someone who loves us the way Jesus does can make all the difference in hardship, in resilience, and in transformation. We need love from them, and they need it from us.
Mother Teresa said, "Love is a fruit in season at all times and within reach of every hand."

We don't drum up supernatural love by trying harder. Instead, we pray for it.

Elsewhere Paul says God "has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love" (Romans 5:5). As we offer ourselves to be filled with the Holy Spirit, we will also be filled with his love.

If we ask him, God will fill us with a supernatural love for others.
