    The Daniel Plan - June 27, 2016

    MONDAY - AKA ENCOURAGER

Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. Acts 11:25-26

A believer named Joseph got the nickname "Barnabas," which meant "Son of Encouragement" (Acts 4:36), because he had a habit of encouraging others.

Many believers were suspicious of a new convert named Saul, who had formerly tried to get the authorities to arrest the followers of Christ. But Barnabas staked his reputation on standing up for Saul as an honest and repentant convert, and others accepted Saul because Barnabas did.

Later, Barnabas saw Saul's remarkable teaching gifts and asked Saul to join him in ministry in Antioch. Barnabas made it his business to see to it that Saul reached his full potential.
His encouragement paid off: Saul was later known as the apostle Paul, one of the foremost leaders of the church.

Our friends need us to be sons and daughters of encouragement.
They need us to notice and point out their gifts and strengths.

They need us to root for them when their courage falters and they get off track.

Who can you encourage this week?

    Hi Pastor,

I'm taking your challenge. Funny, I've been thinking of a friend lately. I saw her - actually, since I didn't see her at church yesterday, I went to her apartment. I found her very miserable.

She's got a lot of health problems, and to be honest, a lot of it is because of her drinking. She also smokes weed. She doesn't have a medical card, though. The woman is in her 50's and has never dealt with some of her personal issues. I just don't know how to talk to her about it, except just basic social chatter.

She doesn't know much about my past, but I sense she and I have a very similar history. Her mom married 3-4 times, and there were always men coming in and out of their home.

Anyway, she's the person I feel I need to encourage. So your post is a perfect reminder to me that God hears and answers my prayers through people around me.

    Thanks again!

    PASTOR,

I just wanted to let you know that your message saved that woman's life. Really! As I said, I fet impressed to help my friend because of your words. Well, last night, when I called her again to check in, I found her in real bad shape. It was like she was have a meltdown or some sort of nervous breakdown.

After listening to her for over an hour and not being able to calm her down one bit, I went over. Just as I guessed - even though she had denied it - she had open Jim Beams and vodka on her table, where she was sitting. She fell down twice walking back to that chair from letting me in!

I acted like I hadn't seen it, which at the time, I thought was a wrong choice, but it was all good.

Well, we talked and talked again, she cried and cried. Several times she lost control and couldn't stop. At one point, a neighbor came over to complain that we were making too much noise.

To make a long story short, she agreed to go to the hospital and they kept her - she's still there. Don't really know what's going on..I called the hospital to find out anything.

They told me she was suicidal.

So, i figure your words and my actions saved this child of God's life. Thank you.

Michelle...God is surely pleased with you...as for your friend...she has a long road ahead...but if you can convince her to replace her consumption of alcohol with consumption of His Word...you will have helped save one of God's children.
    Bless you.
