    The Daniel Plan - July 12, 2016

He rained down manna for the people to eat, he gave them the grain of heaven. Human beings ate the bread of angels; he sent them all the food they could eat. Psalm 78:24-25

When the Israelites wandered in the desert for forty years before entering the Promised Land, God fed them with miraculous food called manna. It tasted like wafers made with honey, and it appeared each morning, six days a week, like frost on the ground.

On the sixth day there was enough for two days, and on the Sabbath they rested and gathered no manna.

God provided for them in this just-enough-for-today miracle so they would learn that "man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD" (Deuteronomy 8:3).

They needed to understand how utterly dependent they were on God and how generous he was in providing for them.

God provides for us, too, sometimes just enough for today. We have a much broader abundance of food choices than just manna day after day--that's something to be grateful for!

When we eat and are satisfied with the goodness of real food, let's celebrate the generosity of the God who gives it to us.

In his abundant generosity, God gives us all the food we need to nourish us completely.
