    The Daniel Plan - July 19, 2016

Anyone who hides their sins doesn't succeed. But anyone who admits their sins and gives them up finds mercy. Proverbs 28:13

God promises mercy to those who confess and turn from their sins.
But what do we tend to do instead? Hide or ignore it? Brush it off? Justify it?

Hiding sins and setbacks from God and others only makes it more likely that we'll continue in the same destructive pattern. It also drains our energy, because our conscience keeps trying to tell us that something is wrong.

We create a reservoir of guilt and shame that we can only keep secret with effort.

The psalmist says that when he kept silent about his sin, "My bones wasted away through my groaning all day long" (Psalm 32:3).

But when we confess the mistakes we've made, God washes away the guilt and shame.

God doesn't condemn us; he welcomes us into his embrace and gives us a chance to start fresh. He also gives us the strength to choose and act differently next time.

All it takes is the humility to be honest about what happened.

U-turns are not only allowed in God's kingdom; they're encouraged. He offers mercy without limit.
